Every year, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission helps more than 125,000 Illinois students advance their career dreams by helping them pay for college. The Monetary Award Program (MAP) grant is designed to help eligible students - who may not have enough money to pay for college, go to a higher education institution. Next week, the Senate is voting on a MAP grant budget to ensure students can pay tuition.
State Senator Gary Forby (D-Benton), who has several community colleges and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in his senate district, believes funding this program is critical for students returning to college this fall and the local economy.
