Governor Rauner's latest round of cuts will hit many Southern Illinoisans right in the pocketbook. One of Rauner's proposed cuts closes Hardin County Work Camp, which provides non-violent offenders an opportunity to rehabilitate themselves through training. The facility also employs hundreds of workers in an area where there aren't many jobs. State Senator Gary Forby (D-Benton) went to visit the facility Monday to learn more about how the proposed cuts would affect his district. When Senator Forby arrived at the facility, he was denied access.
"This is first time in 15 years a state-operated facility didn't open its doors for me so I could learn more about the people I represent." Forby said. "I go down to Hardin Work Camp to learn about how these cuts are going to affect my community so I can represent my district, and Rauner won't even let me in the door – he's refusing to let me see how these cuts are going to change lives. "
