Forby responds to Quinn’s newest attack on gun owners

Governor uses veto power to turn pro-gun bill into “assault weapon” ban

State Senator Gary Forby was shocked to learn that Governor Pat Quinn of Chicago is trying to turn a non-controversial pro-gun, pro-business bill into a ban on owning certain types of guns.

 

“I don’t understand Governor Quinn’s continued assault on Southern Illinois values and Illinois businesses,” Forby said.  “This is all one state.  Maybe he should try coming south of I-80 a little bit more often.”

Forby: Department of Agriculture not being fair to Illinois veterans

State Senator Gary Forby (D-Benton) was upset to learn that the Department of Agriculture abruptly decided to end 25 years of tradition and drop Combined Veterans Association (CVA) of Illinois as the beer vendor at the DuQuoin State Fair.  According to CVA officials, the DuQuoin State Fair was its main fundraiser for Southern Illinois veterans.

“We owe a debt to our country’s veterans,” Forby said.  “I’m extremely disappointed to see the Department of Agriculture turning its back on Southern Illinois heroes.”

Why is Quinn outsourcing Illinois jobs?

More details about Governor Pat Quinn’s plan to shutdown Tamms Correctional Center and other Illinois prisons and youth centers emerged over the weekend as a report in the Southern Illinoisan revealed that Quinn is looking to send more of Illinois’ worst inmates to other states.

According to the story, Illinois already has prisoner exchange agreements with other states, but Illinois has taken in 30 inmates while sending 18 abroad.  Quinn is looking to expand these agreements, in part to make up for the closing of Tamms Correctional Center, which was built to hold the worst of the worst violent inmates.
